My journey to the compact Lejoux Go pushchair began when my wee one transitioned from her infant car seat to the toddler seat on my cargo bike. Our second-hand Bugaboo Cameleon 3 fitted in perfectly underneath the infant car seat in the bucket of the cargo bike, but no matter how hard I tried, I could not get it to fit around the toddler seat.

At first I was really loathe to purchase another buggy. It did not feel congruous with my minimalist ideals! So I tried just carrying the wee one on my hip when we were out and about. It turns out that balancing a baby on your hip whilst holding a bag of shopping in your other hand is rather challenging, especially if you still have a few jobs to do. I also really missed being able to contain the little one at the swimming pool, warm and dry after her swimming lesson, so that I could get dried off and changed!

Sadly, I was not able to find any suitable second-hand compact pushchairs for sale in my local area. So begrudgingly I started looking at options for a new one.

And my search led me to the Lejoux website. Let me tell you about my experience.

The Lejoux Go Stroller

This pushchair comes in a range of colours and is currently priced at £139.98 (as of June 2024).

The bucket of a front-loader cargo bike. Within the bucket are a child in a child-seat, a compact buggy and changing bag.

Included in the box are:

~The stroller

~Stroller bag

~Cup holder

~Raincover

~Mosquito net

~Memory foam seat pad

The stroller features a five-point harness, PU covers on the handlebar and safety bar, shopping basket, adjustable footrest, adjustable backrest, and one-handed folding system.

The main selling point is its compact size; when folded down, it is the size of carry-on luggage allowed by most airlines and weighs just 8kg!

The stroller has a weight limit of 15kg. It is suitable for children aged 6 months to 3 years.

My Experience

The stroller arrived very quicky and was nicely packaged.

Unfortunately the rain cover included with the stroller had a hole in it. I sent an email to the manufacturer with a photograph of the faulty rain cover, and they dispatched a new one the same day.

I did not have to wait long for an opportunity to test the stroller out. We had a swimming lesson the following day, which meant that our changing bag, swimming kit and lunch bag all required to be packed in the cargo bike, in addition to our new stroller!

The stroller did not disappoint. It slotted right into the space next to the toddler seat, with plenty of room for all the luggage at the far end of the bucket.

It has been so easy to bring the stroller along for most trips out, just in case we need it. Whether we have been walking round a few shops, at the swimming pool or in a field visiting a local Viking exhibition, the stroller has risen to every challenge.

That said, we did transition to using a backpack style carrier for more adventurous walks shortly before purchasing this stroller, so we have not really tested it out on more rugged terrain. The wheels are relatively small so I would be concerned about the ride experience for my little passenger if I were to use this stroller over gravel or a more uneven surface.

I also have not used this stroller to transport my little one for an extended period of time, for a couple of reasons. Firstly, the depth of the seat is relatively shallow as compared to our Bugaboo, and there is not any adjustment in the positioning of the shoulder straps on the backrest (all entirely understandable when the primary objective of the design is to keep things compact and light). As a result, I do notice that my little one slides her bottom forward and often ends up slouching in the seat in this pushchair, which does not look very comfortable.

Secondly, there is not any adjustment in the height of the handlebar either. At 178cm tall (5′ 10″), I could do with the handlebar being a little higher. I often find myself stooping as I push this stroller along.

In terms of the included accessories, the cup holder very cleverly attaches to the anchor point of the clip which holds the stroller in its folded position (obviously not required for its primary purpose when the stroller is in use). It is handy for keeping a bottle of water or cup of coffee available for a thirsty parent on the go, and slides off easily when folding the stroller away.

The rain cover is also very light weight and is held on with some Velcro tabs around the handlebars. It certainly keeps the worst of the rain off.

I have been able to fit a reasonable amount in the shopping basket. I did also purchase a hanging bag that attaches to the handlebar for some extra storage when out and about.

When I have needed to recline the seat, often one handed because the wee one has fallen asleep on my lap, I have found the pull cord system a bit fiddly. However, the use of the telescopic handle to prop up the leg rest is so easy to deploy and another really intelligent feature.

Summary

Pros

Very lightweight and compact. Ideal for situations where space is at a premium, such as on a cargo bike!

Good value for money. This stroller is of sturdy construction and design with several useful extra items included as standard.

Excellent customer service. The problem with the defective rain cover was very quickly rectified.

Several clever design features where elements serve multiple purposes.

Cons

The lightweight and compact design does come at a cost; the seat is not as comfortable as a larger buggy and there is less adjustability with the harness system. The handlebar is also a fixed height.

This stroller is not suitable from birth, though other Lejoux models do come with a carry cot and so are marketed as suitable for newborns.

Overall

I am very happy with my purchase. This compact pushchair has allowed us to keep travelling by bicycle, with a means to transport our toddler at the other end of our journey.

I would not have this as my primary pushchair due to concerns about comfort for the wee one and myself with more extended use. But it definitely serves a purpose.
